{Review} Hard as it Gets by Laura Kaye

Hard As It Gets by Laura Kaye

Publication Date: November 26th, 2013

Tall, dark, and lethal...
Trouble just walked into Nicholas Rixey's tattoo parlor. Becca Merritt is warm, sexy, wholesome--pure temptation to a very jaded Nick. He's left his military life behind to become co-owner of Hard Ink Tattoo, but Becca is his ex-commander's daughter. Loyalty won't let him turn her away. Lust has plenty to do with it too. With her brother presumed kidnapped, Becca needs Nick. She just wasn't expecting to want him so much. As their investigation turns into all-out war with an organized crime ring, only Nick can protect her. And only Becca can heal the scars no one else sees.
Desire is the easy part.
Love is as hard as it gets.
Good thing Nick is always up for a challenge...

My Thoughts

Dear Alpha Gods everywhere!!!

This book was exciting, mysterious, not so much edge of your seat but there were WTF moments and OMG where the Hell is Laura going with this moments, that left me turning the pages trying to figure out what was going to happen.

Becca Merritt thinks her brother is in trouble and the last message she received from him was to go find Nick Rixey. When Nick turns her away, there is something in his gut telling him he made a mistake so he does what any (in)sane person would do and stalks her to see if anything is out of ordinary. What he expects to find is Becca being overly cautious but what happens is far beyond what his mind could conjure up.

Now there is a chase, close calls, and a mystery that is so deep, he needs help to figure out the pieces of the puzzle.
He enlists the help of his old Green Beret team and can we say HOLY Alpha-Male ORGY?? Oh, maybe that is what my brain was conjuring while reading this?...
Every man in this group was what most woman picture when thinking about Army men. Strong, moody, determined, kind, intelligent, and panty drenching sexy.

I loved the camaraderie between the brothers. They faced some crazy shit together while over in Afghanistan and now they all have a mutual goal to be accomplished. Even though it was a rough start for them in the beginning, they buried the issues and worked together.

I did feel the reason Nick stopped talking to all of them and the fact they were so pissed off was a little overdramatic but it didn't deter me from the story. I was just expecting Nick to have done something a little more than what he did.
(And yes I know I am vague. I can't help it, I don't want to over share)

I loved the building relationship with Nick and Becca. I am kind of back and forth on whether I thought this relationship was a little too fast but I can say that they are explosive together, and Becca knows how to handle him and his boys (both sets HA). She is a tough chick and she didn't let the pain and worry drown her. She stood tall and she was an equal instead of the damsel in distress. I liked that about about her. I hate whiney, stick your head in the sand type characters and all of these characters were far from that. They took shit head on and devoured it. Found solutions and pursued them.
I guess that is what you can expect from soldiers though ;).

The steam action in this book was OMG HOT.
God, when Nick talked dirty... I stood up, paid attention and kept rereading the parts over and over again. He made my heart race, have butterflies, and become horny all at the same time...
Wooo baby. *fans self*

This is book 1 in the Hard Ink Series so it does not answer all the questions, if anything there were more questions than answers but it did not end in a cliffhanger. Everything is just left open so I am anticipating, waiting, and salivating to get my hands on the next book in the series; Hard As You Can.

I like that each book is a different member of the team so we get to experience each one through each book.
I can't wait to be inside their Alpha heads'.

I give this book a 4.5/5 and can't wait to see what happens next.

Here is the series in order:

Hard As It Gets (Hard Ink, 1)
Hard As You Can (Hard Ink, 2)
Hard to Hold Onto (Hard Ink, 2.5)
Hard to Come By (Hard Ink, 3)
Untitled (Hard Ink, 4)

{Review} Sex Snob by Elizabeth Hayley

Initial reaction to SS:
Just finished Sex Snob ARC and abso-fucking-lutely, LOVED it!! I feel like the authors just wrote a book about me...
The main character is blunt, honest, sarcastic and one horny ass woman...
I mean the chicks name is Amanda, thats close enough to Autumn...right??
 ;)

Sex Snob is a spin-off of Pieces of Perfect but can be read as a stand-alone novel.

Twenty-nine year old wild, carefree, and brutally sarcastic Amanda Bishop thought her three rules for dating would weed out unworthy suitors. And they did. Until she met Shane Reed, her smart-ass, sexy-as-sin CrossFit coach who pushes all her buttons. He’s the man she loves to hate. But when the hate begins to ebb away, and is replaced by feelings she can’t handle, Amanda hides behind her rules. Will the electric chemistry she feels with Shane allow her to get beyond a painful past, or will she push him away with her rules? Rules that make her the ultimate Sex Snob

My Thoughts

"Sometimes a girl just needs a good, hard spanking to clear her mind"

As I sit here sucking on my GoGurt (no, that was not a euphemism, I really like these fuckers, plus I don't have to dirty a spoon because I'm a lazy asshole) and thinking back to what I truly loved about this book, I really can't pinpoint just one thing.

It was laugh your ass off funny, sarcastic, sexy as fuck, sweet with a great storyline, and it was executed well.
And did I mention, hot sex WITH a Crossfit instructor??
NO, well...
Yeah it's in there and my panties were drenched from the beginning to end. The damn anticipation of waiting for them to DO IT was killer and I think that is what made me love it even more.
Anticipation, for me, is what really gets me riled up!

Amanda Bishop (Aka Autumn... ok maybe not but I'd still like to think so), was treated like shit by her former EX lover and since then, she built a wall around her heart. Vowing to never date anyone else that was like her EX, she creates rules that keep men at arms length.
That didn't mean she wouldn't fuck them, that just meant she wouldn't get attached.
She was that afraid of being hurt again.

That is until the always sexy, smart, and fuckable Crossfit trainer, Shane stepped into the picture and she was doomed.
Not really, she fought it every step of the way and the insults she threw at Shane were hilarious, pee yourself, funny!
But what she was really doing was using humor and insults to ignore the sexual attraction because Shane did not fit the mold for the rules she set for herself.

"I leaned in close, "Of the fact that I wouldn't even fuck you with someone else's pussy""

See, I debated whether or not to tell you guys these rules but I think you need to experience them yourself by reading this book. So I am going to keep my mouth shut (well besides eating this gogurt because its delicious and my daughter will be pissed I'm eating them haha double score for mom of the year).

But in the end, Amanda had to find out for herself whether or not rules are meant to be broken. Even if that meant her heart might be shattered once again. She had to be willing to take that leap of faith and find out for herself if throwing caution to the wind is worth that one person who can make you feel complete.
Or she was going to spend the rest of her life putting sex toys in her hair ;).

"Eventually, you have to become a big girl and choose more meaningful aspirations. But I clearly wasn't ready to be a big girl."

Seriously amazing story, that had the right amount of funny, seriousness, sexy, and sex. The characters were well-rounded and enjoyable. The antics were just as hilarious and I need to find these authors in real life because I have a feeling we would have an amazing time together. Just no bars with decks ok? I don't think I can swim while intoxicated.

Can't wait to read more from these two amazing authors because I know I am in for a good time, laughs, and possible B.O.B time if the husband is not around.

As you can tell I LOVED this story and I think you need to read it for yourself.
I give this book a 5/5 and if you want to meet Shane and Amanda, then click the link below....

About the Author
I love to read. I’m a huge fan of books and when I start reading anything, I usually forgo doing everything else, I mean the housework will still be there in the morning (right?). When I love a story or book that I’ve downloaded, I usually refrain from sleep and am crabby the next day – but only until I pick my iPad up and start reading again!
The idea for my debut novel HiT 149, came to me as I was chopping my vegetables for dinner and before the night was over I had written 10 chapters! My goal with writing is just to take people away from whatever is going on in their lives, even if it’s only for a split second.I’m a go with the flow sort of person and don’t really take a course of action to get where I am going. I live in the moment and don’t usually worry about tomorrow because whatever life is due to bring me, I’ll be happy to accept.I love my family and friends and will help anyway I can if someone needs it. But I can be a bit daft sometimes and need to be told very specifically or it’ll go over my head! I really don’t like people that are nasty just because they can be, I don’t believe that’s necessary, I mean life is hard enough as it is!I hope you enjoy my books, I’ve had a hoot writing them. There’s more to come, and not all from the same series……
Til next time

Beautifully Awake
by
Riley Mackenzie

Synopsis:

Diagnosis: Sleep-running

Treatment: Truth

Prognosis: Beautifully Awake

Lili Porter hates the rain. Bad things happen in the rain. As a small town social worker dedicated to protecting children, she is forced to start over to escape her rural disaster. Determined to follow her father’s advice—head up and chin high—Lili finds herself in a new city, taking on a new system, this time healthcare. In doing so, she gets something she never expected, an intimate behind-the-scenes look at life in the hospital.

Lili learns that a surgeon’s hands have the power to heal more than physical wounds. And a prescription for truth can cure three years of sleep running and leave you beautifully awake

My Thoughts

When I first started this book I was completely sucked in. I was invested and eagerly turning the pages to see what was going to happen with Lili and Chase.
Getting further into it I realized what a hot piece of ass Chase was and what I wanted to do to him...with my tongue.

This book had everything I needed/wanted in a great story. Anticipation, little tidbits to tell me that there were issues with both main characters. Sex and I mean steamy, hot, OMG I need to change my fucking panties, sex, and even secondary characters that really blew me away with how well-rounded and full of depth they were in the story.

Lili had her demons and so did Chase. They were both running from their pasts and what happened to them. But unfortunately you cannot outrun your demons, they will always catch up to you and unless you deal with it head on, you will always be drowning in them.

I fell in love with these characters. I was fully invested but once I hit about 80%, I thought the story started dragging. I think it could have ended already but the authors decided to add even more. It became lengthy and over exaggerated so I started skipping paragraphs, just trying to get done. I think some paragraphs could have been deleted or edited and it would have still flowed nicely and not have been so long and drawn out.

Usually, I am depressed when I know a book is about to end but I just didn't see the point of keeping it going once the secrets came out and everything else happened. Plus, the drama at the end seemed rushed and yes I feel like I am contradicting myself but when you are about to put something like THAT at the end, then you need to make sure there is enough time for the readers to get over it and be happy with where the story ended.
Instead I am left feeling like WTF?? I needed more of them...
Not a whole story but maybe an extended epilogue or something??

But everything else in the story was fantastic, sexy, swoony, funny and I absolutely LOVED it.
I loved Dr. Chase Colton, he was exactly how I like my Alpha males.
Strong, determined, a sex addict who would do anything for the girl he loved, and still have an amazing heart. He is definitely now in my top three favorite alpha males. In good company with Christian and Gideon...
Yes, people that is how much I LOVED Chase!!

Overall I wish I could give this book a 5/5 but alas with the execution issues, I have to give this book a strong 4-4.5... It is more than a 4 but less than a 4.5
so I am going with a 4.25

EXCERPT

He was already dressed for the OR in his scrubs, looking ... amazing. The beat beneath my chest started again and my mouth watered, as I not so subtly roamed his body with my hungry eyes. All I wanted was to feel his body against mine, get lost in where I ended and he began. It was all I’d ever want. Forever. I finally got what he meant every time he said mine. He was mine.

“See something you like?” He smirked.
“Mm-hmm.”
“Baby, if you don’t stop looking at me like that I’m never gonna get out of here.”
“Truth. Sounds perfect to me.” Now I smirked.
“Ahh fuck, you’re killing me. You know scrubs don’t hide a hard-on very well.”
I laughed. He had a point there.
Leaning down, he kissed my nose. “Text you in a bit, see how your day is going...”
“K.”
So was this my life? I sunk back into the fluffy pillows and sighed. I wanted this to be my morning every morning.

About the Authors

Yep. That's an “s.” There are two of us!

We’re East coast girls separated by Long Island Sound who met in Physician Assistant School and have been besties ever since. We can safely say that thirteen miles of water does not get in the way because we talk or text, no exaggeration, at least 150 times a day. No, really, we do—about everything and nothing. Shockingly, we never (we mean never) run out of things to say. Umm, ever. We definitely laugh A LOT and we’re a tad sarcastic. And if we’re being totally honest, one or two people might have, on occasion, used our names and ‘dramatic’ in the same sentence. But it’s hard to trust the sources since they married us.
It only took twelve years, two husbands, five kids, two dogs, and a two-week vacation in Cape Cod later to decide the romance world needed a splash of medicine. Write what you know.

So you can easily find us at 4 o'clock on Bank Street beach with a glass of cold Prosecco brainstorming. And guaranteed if we bump into you, literally, it’s only because our iPhones are glued to our hands (totally out of our control) either writing or editing our next novel (and yes, it is possible to do from your iPhone, we mastered it … damn those straight quotations).

When we are not working on our book or reading the latest angsty romance on our kindles, you basically name it and we have it going on. Soccer, lacrosse, golf, swimming, dance, gymnastics, football, chess, baseball, basketball, skiing, ice skating, school, homework, and more school.

Oh yeah, did we forget to mention our careers in medicine?
Needless to say, we realized fast that something had to go, so we opted for sleep. It’s completely overrated (yet so AMAZING) and delirium makes everything funnier. Good thing we share a brain and can pretty much complete each other’s sentences (definitely weird, we know), otherwise it might have taken us two years to write Beautifully Awake rather than one.

So that’s our story, who we are … just add AUTHORS to the list!
