{Review} Twisted by Emma Chase

Falling in love is easy. Staying in love is hard. In this heart-pounding follow-up to Tangled by New York Times bestseller Emma Chase, Kate reveals that there is trouble in paradise, when unexpected circumstances force her and Drew to "renegotiate" their relationship.

There are two kinds of people in the world. The ones who look first, and the ones who leap. I’ve always been more of a looker. Cautious. A planner. That changed after I met Drew Evans. He was so persistent. So sure of himself—and of me.

But not all love stories end happily ever after. Did you think Drew and I were going to ride off into the sunset? Join the club. Now I have to make a choice; the most important of my life. Drew already made hisin fact, he tried to decide for the both of us. But you know that’s just not my style. So I came back to Greenville, Ohio, alone. Well, sort of alone...

What I've come to realize is that old habits die hard, and sometimes you have to go back to where you began before you can move ahead.

My Thoughts... sort of...
Dear Drew,

You are an asshole. And not just any asshole, the kind of asshole where I am not sure if I want to lick your face or kick you really hard in the balls. This is a talent I am sure you are aware of and I am sure you are amused by. You can make woman want to drop their panties or want to find the closest baseball bat. Twisted was no exception to this and I am still not sure whether or not you should have been forgiven for being an immature jackass but I have come to realize that, that is just who you are. Not the immature jackass, ok maybe you are that, but that's not all you are. You just take shit head on and don't stop to think about the consequences of your actions. Its ok, I know its a syndrome of sorts because all men have it. It's called "havingadick" syndrome and sometimes that little head is in control of the bigger, more logical, head and that is where you fuck up.... It's ok, we (meaning woman in general) forgive you, because if not, all woman would be lesbians and then the world's populations would die out and there wouldn't be anymore jackasses like you...

penis gif photo: penis-slugs-brain.gif

I was really upset, angry, and frustrated with both you and Kate because even though I want to blame all this fuckedupness on you, I can't, because she was just as big of an idiot. Assumptions can be the death of any relationship and it is important that both members are on the same page, if not, well, you have one big cluster fuck. It was like a train wreck, I couldn't pull my eyes from because the worse it got, the harder I cringed, the more I wanted to read. When I got to the end of the fuckedupness, I was relieved to be back in your head, no offense to Kate, but I enjoy your mind so much better because the vulgarity rivals my own and I feel like I am inside my own head... Well, except, I have a vagina and not a penis...
But you get the point...

Overall, you pissed me off, made me want to throw things, and then you made me extremely horny... I was between every emotion and I felt all the frustration, which leads me to your creator. I wasn't sure where she was going to take this story because, I mean, we got the happily ever after with Tangled but I knew there would have to be some drama because it would have been a snooze fest if not. Drama makes things interesting. Even if I wanted to cunt punt Emma for driving me effing crazy with this story, I was amused at the same time. And she gets major Kudos for that...

Well, thats about it for this lovely letter to Drew/review of Twisted... I hope you keep yourself in line for the future Mr. Evans and make sure you always keep that lovely mouth of yours dirty...

Sincerely,
The Book Trollop....

I give this story a very big, solid 4/5 stars and I am looking forward to the rest of the books in this series...

{Review} Maybe Someday by Colleen Hoover

(Vilma's Book Blog designed the banner.. check out her awesome page here: VBB)

Includes a free original soundtrack by musician Griffin Peterson.

From #1 New York Times bestselling author Colleen Hoover, a passionate tale of friendship, betrayal, and romance—and the enchanting music that inspires one young woman to put her life back together.

At twenty-two years old, aspiring musician Sydney Blake has a great life: She’s in college, working a steady job, in love with her wonderful boyfriend, Hunter, and rooming with her good friend, Tori. But everything changes when she discovers Hunter cheating on her with Tori—and she is left trying to decide what to do next.

Sydney becomes captivated by her mysterious neighbor, Ridge Lawson. She can’t take her eyes off him or stop listening to the daily guitar playing he does out on his balcony. She can feel the harmony and vibrations in his music. And there’s something about Sydney that Ridge can’t ignore, either: He seems to have finally found his muse. When their inevitable encounter happens, they soon find themselves needing each other in more ways than one…

From the author of the New York Times bestsellers Slammed, Point of Retreat, Hopeless, This Girl, and Losing Hope, Maybe Someday is destined to become another bestseller and long-lasting fan favorite

My Thoughts

Dear Colleen Hoover,

You. Are. Amazing!

I didn't think I could love a book more than Hopeless and Losing Hope and then you create an experience like Maybe Someday and I am literally at a loss for words... I say an experience because Maybe Someday is more than just a book that I picked up and read, it's an experience that embedded itself into my heart and soul and when I came out on the other side, I was ripped to shreds, but God, it felt so good.

I felt every emotion these characters felt.
I was in knots, insanely sad, heartbroken, satisfied, thrilled, excited... I was living this book alongside these characters and just when I couldn't take much more, I took a chapter break. I needed a time out because the tears weren't allowing me to see the pages. With my vision blurry, my heart aching, I was cussing you out for being such an evil creative genius. I am so glad you decided to publish a book to give to your family for Christmas because without doing that, you would have done the world a severe disservice!

I loved each and every character in this book. I fought alongside Ridge and Sydney, I was laughing and joking with Warren and Bridgette. I wanted to put Maggie inside my pocket and protect her from the evil that was bestowed upon her but at the same time ,I wanted the other situation to work out the way I wanted it to, too.

I really didn't think this book was going to turn out the way it did, I wasn't expecting it. I tried to stay away from teasers and other reviews of this book because I wanted my mind completely blank before diving in. I had the gist of what this book was going to be about and my gist was wrong because it was just so much more than what my mind could ever have conjured. I honestly wish I would have waited to listen to the soundtrack so I could have experienced the songs for the first time through Ridge and Sydney.

With that being said, when I threw on my headphones, closed my eyes, and listened to the words that were being sung to me... I never experienced anything like it!
Of course I listen to music while I am reading or heck even while writing reviews, but having the songs being sung while reading them on the pages, took it to a whole other level of genius.
I could shut my eyes and listen to every song on this soundtrack and know what the characters were doing, what they were thinking, what they were feeling and I am getting goosebumps just thinking about it.

I am in serious awe of it all.

You, my dear, alongside Griffin, created something that people are going to experience for a lifetime and I am so glad I got to experience it myself, because it was remarkable! I hope you understand and know how extraordinary your talent is because not many people can even hold a candle to you and I look forward to more from you in the future.

Love,
The Book Trollop

P.S... To anyone reading this weird review/letter to CoHo, I would advise you to do what I did and put your headphones on, drown out the world, and experience these songs through the eyes of Ridge and Sydney but make sure you have your tissues and chocolate ready because you WILL need them!

P.P.S~ I really liked that March 18th date... really clever to have it fall where it did... ;)

As if you guys had any doubts, I give this book 59298439208432908484390 stars!!! I am making numbers up because 5 stars is just not enough for my favorite book of 2014, so far (because I am sure Ugly Love will be another winner for me as well)...

{Review}{Giveaway} The Deep End of the Sea by Heather Lyons

Blog Tour Stop

2/17/14

The Deep End of the Sea
by
Heather Lyons

What if all the legends you’ve learned were wrong?

Brutally attacked by one god and unfairly cursed by another she faithfully served, Medusa has spent the last two thousand years living out her punishment on an enchanted isle in the Aegean Sea. A far cry from the monster legends depict, she’s spent her time educating herself, gardening, and desperately trying to frighten away adventure seekers who occasionally end up, much to her dismay, as statues when they manage to catch her off guard. As time marches on without her, Medusa wishes for nothing more than to be given a second chance at a life stolen away at far too young an age.

But then comes a day when Hermes, one of the few friends she still has and the only deity she trusts, petitions the rest of the gods and goddesses to reverse the curse. Thus begins a journey toward healing and redemption, of reclaiming a life after tragedy, and of just how powerful friendship and love can be—because sometimes, you have to sink in the deep end of the sea before you can rise back up again.

My Thoughts

I would like to start off by saying that I absolutely LOVE Greek Mythology!! I have been obsessed with it since I was in middle school and learned about all the fuckedupness that goes on in Olympus! Of course, in middle school, I really didn't understand everything that was going on but I was obsessed nonetheless. Now that I am older, I can appreciate the going ons in Olympus, while also cringing at the sexual relations...aheeemm...

So when I found out that not only did Heather Lyons have an obsession with Greek Mythology too but was also writing a book about Medusa... to say I was excited would be an understatement!!! I was freaking the freak out!!

But she also decided to do something different with Medusa's story. She changed the whole dynamic of Dusa's character by changing her story from monster to misunderstood woman with a heart of gentleness, not wickedness...

I was a little nervous, I have to admit, because I didn't know how I was going to take this new and improved monster. In my mind, Medusa was full of hate and vengeance, not love and compassion, so changing my thought process was a little hard for me to comprehend... that is, until I started reading The Deep End of the Sea and Heather made it so much easier for me.

Medusa is a monster that people do not understand. Most people are kept away from her personal island because Poseidon is a jealous asshole that keeps people away at all cost. She has one Godly friend, Hermes, and one human friend who happens to have the convenience of being blind so Medusa's curse doesn't bother him. Of course the whole turning people into stone would make her want to keep her distance too.

Dusa is not happy on this secluded island, who would be happy living on an island with only occasional conversations and internet shopping.. It would get old pretty fast (even though I threaten to move to my own island when my spawn and husband are driving me absolutely crazy).... She is missing out on really living, loving, being loved in return, and actually experiencing life as it should be experienced.

Heather does change the mythology a little bit, it is not the exact same as the stories that I have been taught but it is still an incredible story with Godly characters and even an appearance of Death!! Which was an unexpected surprise to say the least...

Medusa learns about herself in this story. She grows from a timid monster and changes into another person by the end that is hardly recognizable from the character who was introduced in the beginning.  Hermes helps Medusa not only love herself but accept love in return. Showing her that people could love the monster her and the real her.

"Love makes every misery, every struggle, every moment of life worth it"

Now, I won't go into toooo much detail about this story because that's not fair to all of you who have not read it yet. You need to experience it for yourself and see why I went bat shit crazy for it. Because I promise, if you love a great greek mythology story with lots of angst, love, sexiness, fuckedupness, Gods who remind you of Chris Hemsworth... then you will go bat shit crazy for this book too!! Hell, even if you don't really care for greek mythology, you will still love this story because it speaks to your soul on so many different levels.

It teaches you about love in all forms. Not to judge people based on looks. How monsters come in many different forms and the ones that look like the devil, may actually be an angel in disguise. Friendship. The love of family. The power of love and acceptance.

Heather is an incredible author with passion that you can just feel by reading her books. I never really know where her stories are going to take me, but when I finish I realize that I am starting to ripen, my clothes are a mess, and I don't remember the last time I put something in my mouth to nourish my body. Her stories literally take me to another world and I never want to leave...EVER. This one was no different and if at all possible, it was worse, because I did not stop reading until I was completely done and then I went back and reread parts that just stuck out to me.

This story has it all and I absolutely loved it... Was in love with it and I may be a little in love with Heather at this point in our relationship ;)...

If you have not stopped reading this review by now and gone to purchase this book, then you need to do that NOW..... No really... You need to carry your ass to buy this book NOW!!!

I give this book an amazing 5/5

{Review}{Teaser} Running in Place by L.B Simmons

What can I say...
I love a good book with damaged characters who eventually find themselves and can be realistic at the same time!
Running in Place had all of that for me...
plus some pretty sweet lyrics that made me swoon!

****NA Contemporary Romance, can be read as a stand alone. Due to theme of Child Abuse, Explicit Language, Mild Violence, and Sexual Situations - Recommend Readers 18+******

Tatum O’Connell:
Some call me a party girl. People see me as happy, full of life, with absolutely no cares in the world. They see what I want them to see. But no one knows me - really knows me. Not even Noah Reese. Mr. Perfect is always watching me, most likely judging every single imperfect thing I do. But, if Noah wants to keep an eye on me, that’s just fine. I definitely don’t mind. I just hope he doesn’t have any plans to save me from my new-found life of self-destruction because in order to save me, he will have to see me…
And I’m never going to let that happen.

Noah Reese:
Perfect. That’s me. That’s the only acceptable way to be, according to my father. Perfect grades. Perfect manners. Perfect athlete. Perfect SAT scores. Perfect college. And recently, I was accepted into the perfect med school. My future has already been mapped out for me and there’s nothing that can change that. Not even Tatum O’Connell. That girl is out of control, yet for some reason, I can’t seem to keep my distance from her. I watch her closely, hoping that one day she’ll let me in, but watching her lead her life down the dangerous path she’s on right now isn’t easy…
I have a feeling I’m about to find myself swept away by the hurricane that is Tatum O’Connell.

“Two fleeting souls,
Unknowingly tethered.
Too slowly drawn,
Impatient fate calls.
The jolting collide intertwines their lives
And splinters their walls.”
“Catalyst” – Noah Reese

My Thoughts

This book made me pay attention from the very beginning and I could not put it down until I was done with the last page.

It was so moving and yet so realistic that I could believe it happened to someone..

This book starts off with Tatum's letter to her father and with a beginning like that, I was immediately sucked in. It was heart wrenching and emotional. I was heartbroken for this poor little girl who had to suffer by the hands of her mother.

Then we get Noah's POV and I realized right off how talented he was as a lyricist and I was sucked into his story as well. I did get a sense of him being a little damaged too and it was not until later that I saw why.

This story is great because it is not the normal romantic story... It is but it isn't... I didn't exactly know what was going to happen and Simmons does a fantastic job of keeping you guessing, wondering, and hoping that it will turn out like you want.

Two broken people finding themselves amongst the daily life obstacles, learning to live, be free, grieving, and learning to forgive the people who provoked major damage on their souls. It was beautiful but angsty enough to give drama but not too much where I was under a constant wave of despair, just waiting to get out of it. And the sexual tension was almost too much but the build up is worth it.
Amazing balance!

I cried on multiple occasions, felt my heart being stabbed repeatedly but was also laughing and falling in love with these characters, while they were falling in love with each other.
These characters are strong but need a little convincing that they are and the journey they take to find themselves is beautiful and heartwarming.

I give this book a 5/5 and if you have read the other stories by this author then know that this book is even better. I loved Running on Empty and Recovery novella but Running in Place is by far my favorite by this author <3

{REVIEW} Bully by Penelope Douglas

I have so many things I want to say about this book... Lets see if I can get them all down..

My name is Tate. He doesn't call me that, though. He would never refer to me so informally, if he referred to me at all.

We're neighbors, and once, we were best friends. But then, one summer, he turned on me and has made it his mission to screw up my life at every opportunity. I've been humiliated, shut out, and gossiped about all through high school. His pranks and rumors got more sadistic as time wore on, and I made myself sick trying to hide from him. I worried about what was around every corner and behind every door.

So I left.

I spent a year studying abroad and bathed in the freedom of life without Jared. Now I'm back to finish up high school and get the hell out of here forever. I'm hoping that after a year of breathing room, he's moved on and forgotten all about me.

But even if he hasn't changed, I have. I'm not interested in avoiding him or turning the other cheek anymore. We're going to go head to head, because neither of us wants to back down.

My Thoughts

I didn't think I was going to love this book as much as I did. I mean it is about a big bad Bully who likes to make a girl's life a living Hell but there was something about this Bully that pulled me in and kept me thinking about WTF his problem could be. I also couldn't figure out why in the HELL this chick could be attracted to this guy and want to have him anywhere near her lady bits when he was such a douchenozzle??

But she knew what it was like to be loved by him as a child, he was her best friend and it is hard to get over something like that no matter how mean he could be.

Jared was Tate's best friend and they did everything together as kids until something happened to Jared that caused him to change and you know that saying, "you hurt the ones you love the most", that was true here because the only person Jared could lash out at was Tate and deep down he knew that Tate would take it, but she couldn't take it anymore and she started fighting back.
She still loved him and missed him as a friend but
enough was enough.

“You were my tempest, my thunder cloud, my tree in the downpour. I loved all those things, and I loved you. But now? You’re a fucking drought. I thought that all the assholes drove German cars, but it turns out that pricks in Mustangs can still leave scars.”

Jared also lived by the rule of "if I can't have her nobody else can either". He would intentionally spread lies about Tate to get guys to either be afraid of her or disgusted by her.
I just couldn't figure him out! What was his problem? Why did he contradict himself so much? He bullied Tate pushed guys away from her but didn't want her for himself, made her life a living Hell but would also stand up for her..
Did he like her? Did he hate her? Did he just like seeing her hurting?
And even though he was doing all of these awful things I was still rooting for him, still getting crazy butterflies rolling around and I just couldn't help it, there was something about him that pulled me in and like a moth to a flame I couldn't pull away!

"Tatum?" His voice sounded soft and gentle, and I instantly felt warm all over. But then he spoke again.
"I wouldn't care if you were alive or dead."

Then that infamous speech and stuff started to change and we finally get down to the root of the problem and I was like hmmm..
I won't go into too much detail but I do think Jared had a lot of ass kissing to do and he didn't redeem himself enough for me BUT I still loved him hard core.

And can I say that from the very beginning of this book the chemistry between Jared and Tate was effing COM-BUST-IBLE!! I felt it all the way to my toes and even when they were screaming at one another, I felt it, I felt the underlying current that would have ignited with just one taste!!

I loved this story, it pulled me in and I fell in love with Tate, I seriously loved her as a character...
She DIDN'T annoy the ever loving shit out of me and despite being called names and being picked on, she was STRONG. She didn't take shit to heart and just let it roll right off of her. BUT the best thing about her was her ability to love despite it all.
She was AWESOME!

I also enjoyed the relationship between her and her dad. There needs to be more stories with strong parental relationships because those relationships are the basic building blocks of future relations.
Without a healthy foundation most of your relationships in the future will probably be built on rocky ground...
(Sorry the psychology student in me came out)

Overall I give this book a 4.5/5 stars and I can't wait to read more from this amazing author!!
