{Review} Nowhere but Here by Renee Carlino

A Chicago reporter in her mid-twenties unexpectedly finds love in Napa Valley when she’s assigned to spend a week with a famously reclusive genius.

Kate Corbin has lost her spark. From the outside, her life seems charmed. She has a handsome, long-term boyfriend and a budding journalism career at a popular Chicago newspaper. But in reality, her relationship is going nowhere, and she’s quickly losing motivation for what she once believed was her dream job. When her boyfriend dumps her unceremoniously, Kate loses all hope of finding love.

With no living family and few friends, Kate confides in her boss. Trusting that the hungry, ace reporter is buried somewhere deep inside, he gives Kate the opportunity to jumpstart her career. The assignment: to interview the famously reclusive R.J. Lawson, a wealthy tech genius who disappeared years ago but recently reemerged as a Napa Valley vintner. The week takes an unexpected turn, however, when Lawson refuses to divulge any information. Desperate for a lead, Kate turns to Jamie, a vineyard hand who shows her the romance of wine country—and stirs her aching heart. But his connection to Lawson is ambiguous, and when Jamie disappears before the end of the week, Kate is left to investigate another story: the truth behind the man who stole her heart.

My Thoughts

So this review is long overdue. I sat here and wrote this review a million times and then deleted it a million and one times because I haven't been able to get it right. I was having a hard time on what I wanted to say and how much I wanted to give away to the plot and if people would stone me alive if I gave a small but big plot point to this story away. It has been nerve-wracking but now I am just going to write and hope it make sense and hopefully nobody will want to stone me to death!

This book spoke to me on a much more personal level than most books do. I mean, lets be real here, there are a lot of books that "speak" to me but this one... this one, was different because of Jamie.
Now, I won't say what about Jamie that spoke to me on a personal level, you will have to read it for yourself to figure it out, but just know, a lot of what Jamie said in the story felt like he was personally talking about me. To me... through me. He took a lot of my feelings towards certain situations and certain events and explained it how I would have. The feelings, thoughts, how your body feels, everything was explained perfectly and I fell so hard for the story because of the true descriptions and research.

A book that is thoroughly researched and not just bullshitted is a winner, in my opinion, and this one was definitely a winner!

The story, other than with just Jamie personally, was deep and what true love stories are about. A soul touching love that nothing can compete with or touch. An experience that most spend their lives searching for and never experience for themselves. It was also believable because lets face it, some romance stories are amazing but are a little farfetched, but this one I could feel and I experienced right along with these characters.

Of course there were times I was frustrated with Kate and wanted to shake some sense into her because she was being outrageous. And then there were other times I could understand where she was coming from. It was a delicate balance that never fell on one side more than the other.

There were elements that seemed so Renee like in this story. A theme I have noticed with her stories, usually dealing with older, wiser people giving the most remarkable advice about love and life in general. In Sweet Thing there was Martha and in Nowhere but Here there were actually a few wise people who gave Kate advice when she needed to hear it the most. There was also angst, surprises that you may or may not see coming, and then of course appearances from Will and Mia that make your heart swoon.

I can see this novel turned into a movie that is set in Tuscany with beautiful scenery and an epic romance that people can feel through the screen! It portrays so many emotions that a film exec would be stupid not to evoke them on screen.

It was beautiful and a beautiful story deserves 5 "I love this freaking story" stars!!

Synopsis
Ever wonder what happened after the final pages of Sweet Thing?

From his candid and sometimes neurotic point of view, Will tells all in this musical and sexy follow-up novella to Renée Carlino’s USA Today Bestseller.

Life is pure bliss for Mia and Will. They have a puppy, a loft in Brooklyn, and a new music studio on the rise. It seems things couldn’t get any better for this talented couple when life decides to throw them a sweet little curve ball.

They quickly learn that things don't always go according to plan. Sometimes happily ever after is one giant leap of faith away.
With the help of good music, good friends, and one eccentric old lady, they overcome a few of life’s little bumps to find the sweetest thing of all.

Watch this duo grow in more ways than one in SWEET Little THING.

My Thoughts

This sweet little novella takes us back inside the lives of Will and Mia... I, for one, missed them dearly and was soooooo very excited to hear that Mrs. Carlino made us a little more to love and make their lives a little more complete.

When I first dove into the book, I thought I was just going to get the tale of Mia being pregnant and having a baby but what I got was so much more than I expected.

There was a little story, some drama, humor, and of course, words of wisdom. It was just as heartwarming as Sweet Thing, just shorter. I loved how the old characters were just as prominent in this story as they were in Sweet Thing and even some new characters sprinkled in to give the book more flavor.

Will was just as neurotic and crazy as he was in the last book but he was also still just as romantic and panty dropping sexy.

Mia was the same stubborn, caring, loving woman that we grew to love and if anything she is a lot more confident and secure in her life with Will, which was great to see. It made me happy to have them fit so perfectly together!

By the end, we get a completed story and know just where the characters are headed in their future endeavors. I loved where Renee took them and even though it is bittersweet to see them go, I am satisfied where everything ended. I couldn't picture a better way for them to go out.

Its no secret I give this novella five stars!! And as much as I am going to miss Will and Mia, I am excited to read more from Renee because I am sure I will fall in love with her future characters as much as I have Will and Mia...

“I have a complaint.” I said.

She climbed up next to me and cuddled her face up to my bare chest, then she used her index finger to trace a line down my happy trail to the belt on my jeans.

“What sort of complaint, Wilbur?” Ah, Mia’s sexy voice.

I reached down and ran my hand up her thigh. “You should not wear these pants around that horny little High School Musical kid.”

She popped up and looked me straight in the face. “He totally looks like Zac Efron, huh?”

“Mia, he practically shot off a load just staring at your ass.”

She punched me in the chest. “That is vulgar, Will Ryan.”

“It’s true. You can’t dress like that around him.” I tackled her back down on the bed and hovered over her.

“I thought you liked these pants.”

“I do.” I began kissing my way down her body. I lifted her shirt and kissed the swell of each breast before moving down the center of her body. “But you know what I like better than you in these pants?”

“Me out of these pants?”

“Am I that predictable?” I said as I quickly peeled them off her body.

“Yes.” She sighed.

I sat back on my heels. “You’re beautiful.”

Holding her leg from behind her knee, I kissed my way up the inside, from her calf to her thigh and all the way up to her panties. I peeled the lace from her hips with my teeth and then down to her ankles as slowly as possible. She lay there naked from the waist down, watching me gaze at her, hungry for her. Her skin was pure white and it contrasted so strikingly against her dark eyes and hair. She was an authentic beauty. I leaned over her body, putting my weight on my hands, which were placed on each side of her head. Her eyes were searching mine. She whimpered and then tried to lift her face up to kiss me.

I drew my head back. “Uh uh, I don’t think so.” I nuzzled my nose into her neck and trailed kisses to her ear. I whispered, “Stay just like this. Don’t go anywhere.” I planted a swift kiss on her lips and jumped off the bed. “I’m goin’ to play B-ball with Tyler. Be back in a few.”

As I left the room, I glanced over my shoulder and saw her lying there completely still, her mouth open in shock. I got halfway down the hallway before she finally yelled, “Asshole!”

I bent in the hallway and patted June’s head. She rolled over and then got back on her feet and trotted off toward our bedroom.

Before walking out the door, I called back to Mia, “Who’s predictable now, sweet thing?”

Sweet Thing (ARC)

I got the honor of reading this book for a review
and I thought this book was FABULOUS

Description of Sweet Thing:
Mia Kelly is a twenty-five-year-old walking Gap ad who thinks she has life figured out when her father’s sudden death uproots her from slow-paced Ann Arbor to New York City’s bustling East Village. There she discovers her father’s spirit for life and the legacy he left behind with the help of an old café, a few eccentric friends, and one charming musician.

Will Ryan is good-looking, poetic, spontaneous, and on the brink of fame when he meets Mia, his new landlord, muse, and personal heartbreaker.

A story of self-discovery and friendship, Sweet Thing shines light on the power of loving and letting go.

My Thoughts
As I sit here with my ear buds and music blasting in my ears, I think about how this author combined my two passions into one story; music and reading.

This book is a story about a 25 year old named Mia who like everyone else that is going through life, is trying to decide how to live, and what she wants out of life.
In other words, she has no idea what she wants to be when she grows up.
She has a business degree but her passion lies in music.
When her father has a heart attack her life is suddenly turned upside down

She decides she is going  to continue her father's legacy and remain in charge of his cafe.
While on the way to New York, she runs into a musician named Will and they end up hitting it off right away because of their shared love of music.

The secondary characters that are in Mia's life were just as amazing and eclectic as she is and it added more character to the book, which kept me laughing and crying.
After a while Will ends up becoming Mia's roommate and she does everything she can to keep her heart and soul guarded but somehow Will kept breaking down those barriers.

This is where the frustration with the main character came into play and you are screaming at her for being so stupid and close minded.
I really wanted to scream at her and I wanted to throw a five-year-old fit but I remained calm and kept reading.
I came out on the other side of this book happy, sad, emotional, and unsatisfied..I wanted NEEDED MORE!!

I felt after all that drama I needed the ending to be more complete OR I need a second book ;).

Other than that, this book was awesome!!
I have a feeling it is going to have great success because it is that amazing and the writing will speak for itself!!

If you want to read a cautionary tale about finding yourself, grieving, true love, best friends and the love of family then I suggest you read this book!
You will laugh, cry, become frustrated, and be left wanting more!!

Snippets from the book:

“Pops, will I have a metamorphosis?”
“Of course, luv. We are ever changing, always learning, always evolving.”
                                                    (Kindle Locations 284-285)

"Tears had poured from her eyes without any change in her facial expression. It’s pure pain and pure surrender when your soul cries without any fight from your body and that’s how I knew she was deeply affected."
 (Kindle Locations 300-301)

“You have to teach your heart and mind how to sing together… then you’ll hear the sound of your soul.”
(Kindle Location 1233)

Kudos Renee Carlino for your debut novel, it was amazing and I was so glad I got to read it.

I give this book a 4.5/5 and I hope to read more from this author..

Buy it on April 16th when it is released!!!
