{Review} Sustained by Emma Chase

A knight in tarnished armor is still a knight.

When you’re a defense attorney in Washington, DC, you see firsthand how hard life can be, and that sometimes the only way to survive is to be harder. I, Jake Becker, have a reputation for being cold, callous, and intimidating—and that suits me just fine. In fact, it’s necessary when I’m breaking down a witness on the stand.

Complications don’t work for me—I’m a “need-to-know” type of man. If you’re my client, tell me the basic facts. If you’re my date, stick to what will turn you on. I’m not a therapist or Prince Charming—and I don’t pretend to be.

Then Chelsea McQuaid and her six orphaned nieces and nephews came along and complicated the ever-loving hell out of my life. Now I'm going to Mommy & Me classes, One Direction concerts, the emergency room, and arguing cases in the principal's office.

Chelsea’s too sweet, too innocent, and too gorgeous for her own good. She tries to be tough, but she’s not. She needs someone to help her, defend her…and the kids.

And that — that, I know how to do.

Jake Becker was every wet fantasy come true.
 And he knew it.

The hit it and quit it type who just needed that one girl to come along and knock him straight on his ass!

What he got was 6 kids and a woman he wanted more than any other.

BUT...

A packaged deal for him was a death sentence, a way to die a slow, agonizing, death.

He can't seem to stay away from this dysfunctionally functional family and before he even realizes it, he is in the middle of the chaos, being depended upon.
But he is Mr. "I will fuck you and I will quit you", not Mr. Mom, and he realizes he is turning into what he always ran from.

Even though he was a big asshole, he had his heart in the right place and I enjoyed the wicked things he was able to do with his mouth and -ahem- body part...

I think the family is what really stole the show for this book and it left me feeling so many good feels... ALL THE FEELS... it was heartbreaking, heartwarming, sad, happy, hopeful, painful...
It left me FEELING so much.
The family was so full of personalities ranging from baby to teenager, and if you have kids, you can imagine how hectic their lives were.

There were many times I had to wipe the wetness away from my eyes, telling myself that it was just dusty in the room and there was no way I was trying to cry like a blubbering idiot.

I really appreciated Chelsea's character because she took on something bigger than herself and I couldn't imagine doing what she does. Especially when the odds are stacked against her in almost every way.

She was determined, smart, and didn't back down to anyone, not even Jake, when he was being...well, an asshole.

Overall, this book is like a well-written, funny, family drama that will make your heart melt and panties wet from being inside Jake's head.

I think Emma Chase is the only person who can pull off a male perspective with so much depth and personality and also make it believable. Makes me wonder if she was an asshole male in a past life and his voice is speaking through her onto paper.
But then again, she is just THAT good!

I just wish there was a little more in the end. I can't put my finger on what more I wanted but I needed something else, something more filling because in the end, I was left not completely fulfilled. I "think" it may be from the court cases Jake was working on. I wanted to learn more about the spoiled brat and one of the kids, what happened with them??

But I still give this a 4.5/5 "Emma Chase does MALE so HARD" Stars!!
