{EXCERPT) Deep End of the Sea by Heather Lyons

We are thrilled to share an excerpt for Heather Lyons' THE DEEP END OF THE SEA! THE DEEP END OF THE SEA is a New Adult Fantasy set for release February 13, 2014 and definitely one you need to add to your TBR pile!

The Deep End Of The Sea - Front Cover

About THE DEEP END OF THE SEA:

What if all the legends you’ve learned were wrong?

Brutally attacked by one god and unfairly cursed by another she faithfully served, Medusa has spent the last two thousand years living out her punishment on an enchanted isle in the Aegean Sea. A far cry from the monster legends depict, she’s spent her time educating herself, gardening, and desperately trying to frighten away adventure seekers who occasionally end up, much to her dismay, as statues when they manage to catch her off guard. As time marches on without her, Medusa wishes for nothing more than to be given a second chance at a life stolen away at far too young an age.

But then comes a day when Hermes, one of the few friends she still has and the only deity she trusts, petitions the rest of the gods and goddesses to reverse the curse. Thus begins a journey toward healing and redemption, of reclaiming a life after tragedy, and of just how powerful friendship and love can be—because sometimes, you have to sink in the deep end of the sea before you can rise back up again.

Excerpt:

I let it happen again.

The temple settles into that stagnant silence I’ve long learned to loathe, and these are the most cohesive series of words I can string together for many long, desolate minutes. I let it happen again. Resolutions apparently mean nothing, even if crafted under the best of intentions. Had I not, just this very morning, recited a daily pledge held dear to my heart: I shall not let myself be used for death?

And yet, a man is dead, and I was the weapon that slayed him.

I move closer to where he now stands, forever frozen in terror, and press my shaking hand against his outstretched stone one. “I’m sorry,” I whisper, though he cannot and never will be able to hear my words. “So, so sorry.”

His eyes, wide and mercifully detail free, offer me nothing in return. Once I commit his features to memory, I construct a life history with a name worthy of his sacrifice. Walt was single (I can’t bear the thought of spouses and children, thus my collection of singletons) and a bit of a daredevil when he wasn’t volunteering to teach literacy to adults in poverty stricken urban areas. He’d gone spelunking at least a half-dozen times, sky diving twice, and bungee cord diving off some crazy bridge in Colorado just once, on his thirtieth birthday. Walt liked to write poetry; how could he not, when his now-deceased parents had named him after one of the greats?

Walt liked to talk about poetry, too, which means he needs to be with others like him. I strip off my flannel work shirt, down to a tank top, and get to work. Shoving stones around when half of one’s body is reptilian isn’t the easiest of tasks, requiring a great deal of precision and care.

As I always tend to do when placing a new statue, I can’t help but flash back to the one and only time I’d broken one of my victims. I’d been tired—he’d snuck upon me when I’d been sleeping—and an overestimated shove sent poor Nikolaos face first against the temple floor. I’d spent most of that night collecting the pieces which once made a whole man, blubbering in misery. As penance, his head, missing an ear and part of his nose, still sits on a shelf in my bedroom. Treat us gently, I like to imagine him telling me nightly before I sleep. We deserve your care.

I have not failed Nikolaos since. Over the ages, I’ve developed a routine to transfer the statues around the island that includes wrapping the bodies in a thick quilt before putting them up on casters. It takes a painstaking amount of time to shift them short or long distances, but each person deserves nothing less from me.

Walt’s group sits just outside the temple. They are the philosophers of our island; it only seems natural they would find much to appreciate in both the sun and the stars. I struggle with his body over the stairs—they are tricky to maneuver for me even without hauling a two hundred pound statue—but eventually, I get him exactly where he’ll fit in best.

“Ladies and gentlemen, this is Walt,” I tell the still faces forming a cluster near a non-functioning fountain. “His poetry is as beautiful as his namesake’s.”

I angle Walt so his eyes face theirs. It’s late afternoon, and there is soft orange light filtering down upon their features. It’s a beautiful sight, which only saddens me, because all of that talk about death and beauty being intertwined is one of the biggest loads of crap I’ve ever heard. Death isn’t beautiful. Too often than not, it’s messy and brutal; even when done in sleep, there’s still that theft of breath, that failure of a heart. Death is an act of violence.

I should know. I am one of the most prolific murderers in history. And I think about death constantly.

I often wonder what my own death will be like, if I am ever blessed to embrace it. I’m not too picky in my imaginings; I’ll take any sort by this point. Logically, I’d prefer a less painful exit, but, knowing my luck, it’ll be as ruthless as once reported and still widely believed.

It ought to be noted I have some of the most wretched luck to ever be doled out, so there is that.

The sound of waves crashing against the shore sends my eyes to the horizon. I’ve tried to drown myself in those waters more times than I ought to admit over the years, but the sea always spits me back out. I’ve also tried overdosing on pharmaceuticals, stabbing myself in the chest and eyes (which was just as painful as you’d imagine), and throwing myself off a cliff. Melodramatic, yes, and all ineffective for an immortal cursed with impenetrable skin and a digestive system apparently filled with acid.

Death is not my friend. At least, not yet.

{Book Blitz} Goodbye Caution by Jacquelyn Ayres

Goodbye Caution

by Jacquelyn Ayres

Hosted by: Bare Naked Words

Becca Campbell is a mother, friend, and widow to a war hero (may he rot in hell). She just wants to raise her daughter right and keep her bed-and-breakfast afloat in this economy. Her traumatic past leaves her with no desire for a relationship—until Grayson James walks through her door. He’s not the type of man you can easily say “no” to. Becca can’t quite understand the pull she feels toward him. But then his controlling nature starts to push her away—and into Ray McNeil’s comforting arms. Which is right where Ray has always wanted her.

Who will Becca choose?

Will she finally give in to her feelings for Ray, or continue the tumultuous relationship with Grayson? Only one thing is certain—either choice will mean saying goodbye to caution.

Warning: This book contains some disturbing situations, dubious consent, strong language and violence.

10% of the proceeds from this book will be donated to YWCAUSA.org to help abused women and children

I am a Domestic Engineer (born and raised in NJ) whose sole responsibility is to guide three young impressionable kids into becoming phenomenal adults. This challenging, yet rewarding work requires a lot of love (coffee), patience (wine) and determination (periodic exorcisms). I work all of this magic in the beautiful state of New Hampshire.
Before becoming a Domestic Goddess (not really), I spent over a decade working in the medical field where I wore more hats than the Queen.
I have had a love for the written word and the great escape it provides since I was a little girl. When I wasn't reading about people and the places they lived, I was creating my own characters and adventures. Finally, I have been putting a pen to paper allowing my characters to come to life. When I don't have a pen and paper in hand, you can often find me laughing at the conversations my characters are having in my head.

Meet Becca, Grayson, Ray & Hazel

Grayson

1.  When you contrived with Ray to share Becca, did you not consider, knowing your nature, that it might be problem?

I don’t know what the bloody hell I was thinking besides the fact that I couldn’t lose her! I mean, I was completely snookered. Everything sounds brilliant when your rat arsed! I just . . .  I really screwed up and I knew I had to do something drastic to attempt to win her back. In all honesty, I didn’t completely factor in the consequences of sharing her with Ray because I didn’t think the arsehole really stood a chance!

2.  You seem to fall for Morgan almost as hard as you fall for Becca, is the 'ready made family' part of the attraction?

I was looking for a nice, long overdue, visit with my aunt and a great weekend skiing with my mates. I was not looking to fall in love and I most certainly was not looking to become a father. I never even considered having children—ever. But, my God, you’ve all met Morgan—how could anyone not fall in love with that girl? She’s a clever, funny little thing and I absolutely adore her! So, no, a ‘ready-made family’ was not part of the attraction but the love I feel for them made me ready for a family!

Becca

1.  Obviously you had reservations about Gray and Ray's plan to share your time, but all that aside, you had permission to enjoy two men! How much fun was that??

            Can they hear me?

No. They are in the other room.

            Security hasn’t been in here?

            No. Why do you ask?

Umm . . . you have met Grayson, right?

Oh. Quite right. No. No one’s been in here but us.

Ok. Let’s just say my Slip n’ Slide never saw a dry moment and thoroughly enjoyed the extensive playtime!

2.  How do you cope with the restrictions 24 hour protection must impose?

Well, it definitely hasn’t been easy—that’s for sure! I’ve had to let go—a lot! I’m very impatient. When I need to do something, I need to do it now! Waiting for my detail sucks sometimes. I’m blessed to have Melissa though! She makes it a bit more normal for me. With the exception of the handful I’ve gotten close to, well, it’s just—awkward! I mean how would you feel if there were people outside of your bedroom door every minute—hearing everything? I couldn’t be quiet with Grayson if I tried! So I had to ‘let go’. Now I just think of it like this, ‘Well, at least I’m keeping them all closer to God!’

3.  Do you feel any guilt that you and Ray could have probably stayed friends if not for the arrangement?

That’s the worst part of this. I was bound to lose one of them. Ray has been my best friend for about five years now. We’ve done everything together. I have to believe in my heart of hearts that eventually, things will mend between us. We love each other very much and on such a different level. I can’t see how anything can wipe that all away. But to answer your question—yes, the guilt is unbearable. I’ve handled this whole situation very poorly.

Ray

1.  Why did you wait until Becca was happy with another man before deciding to declare your feelings?

Oh, let me guess who you got that information from! That prick is unbelievable!

Well, we’re only going by what we’ve been told in general. There’s not much evidence to tell us anything different.

There are two sides to every story.

Tell us yours then.

Soon.

Why so secretive?

We’ve all got our secrets, lady.

(Ladies, I believe Ray just dished out one of his wink/air kiss combinations at me. I may need to change my knickers!)

To answer your question though, I didn’t wait for another man to show up. I’ve always told Becca how I feel . . . in my own way. I love Becca with all my heart but she is one oblivious woman!

2.  How do you manage the fact that you actually like Grayson, even though you hate him for having Becca?

I did like him when I first met him. I tolerate him now—barely. I’ll tell you why I do tolerate him, though. That dude is a loose cannon! When Becca has finally had enough of his bullshit and realizes he’s not the man for her, I’ll be waiting—with open arms. Just you wait and see!

People might say the same thing about you, Ray. Call you a loose cannon.

(Ray has just given me, what I believe Becca calls, his ‘sit n’ spin’ face and is now leaving. I have to admit—his arse does do wonders for those jeans. I may or may not have just fallen out of my chair from leaning to keep a good watch on that arse!)

Hazel

1.  Did you have hopes from the beginning that Becca and Grayson would fall in love?

Well, I had hopes that they would like each other and maybe want to date. But I was not expecting all of this. Honestly, I think it’s been all too much for Becca—given her history.

2.  When Becca and Grayson argued who did you deep down feel most protective of?

Such a simple question, dear, and yet so complicated. You know I raised Gracie from the time he was fifteen so he’s like the son I never had. Becca, though I’ve only known her for the past several years, is like the daughter I never had. It really depended on the argument. Becca, though she is so strong, is still quite fragile from her past. You know, she didn’t walk away from George on her own accord—he was killed—well, so she thought. So I feel very protective of her when I see Grayson behave so aggressively. My Gracie has never acted that way before. I’ve also never seen him so torn up and broken down by a woman.  To see what she has done to him—my heart leans in his direction. Now that I’m with Charlie, I just try to spend as much time with him and let those two kids try to figure things out for themselves.

3.  Errrrrrr – speaking of Charlie, Hazel—have you found Jesus yet, and if so, how was it? ;-)

Oh, you are just as bad as Becca is, you naughty girl! Can’t you girls think about anything besides sex? (You should know that she is giggling and blushing at the moment)

No. It’s no secret that women are worse than men! Come out with it then! Is Charlie taking you to church, Hazel?

We may have said Hallelujah a few times. (giggling) Oh no! Don’t put that in there! Oh dear, that’s not going to be seen in a national newspaper, is it?

No. No, of course not! (Internationally on the internet but we won’t tell her that!)

Oh good! (sigh of relief) Well, it was so nice to talk to you, dear! Make sure to come and stay  with us at The Morgan Inn—we’d love to have you!

 Thank you, Hazel!

{Review} A Little Too Hot by Lisa Desrochers

If you play with fire…

Tossed out of college and cut off by her parents, Samantha West is in pretty dire straits. So when her rocker best friend hooks her up with a job dancing at a gentlemen’s club, who is she to turn it down? Plus, there are rules to dancing at Benny’s: No touching, keep your clothes on at all times, and never get closer than three feet. Unfortunately for Sam, her first private client makes her want to break every single one of them.

Harrison Yates is scorching hot, but he’s got a past that involves being left at the altar not too long ago. Sam is determined to make him forget about his ex, but when she makes her move, it flings her life into a spiral of chaos she never saw coming.

Because Harrison Yates isn’t who he seems to be. And his secret will probably get her killed.

My Thoughts

I really love Lisa's style of writing, she brings me into the story and holds my attention until the end. This story did that and more...

Sam and Harrison Yates are two strong-willed characters with screwed up pasts. They come together in the most unconventional way possible but they are unable to act on their feelings. With them unable to rip their clothes off, the sexual tension was ridiculously high and horny...

I really enjoyed this book and the characters. It got slow at some points and then other times I was unable to put the book down. There were moments of "ehhhh... this doesn't seem very accurate or like it could happen" but I had to remember that this is a work of fiction. I am being kind of vague because if I say too much then I will ruin a major plot point.

The secrets, lies, betrayal, were all fascinating and exciting. I was outraged for Sam and pissed at Harrison and I had no idea how he was going to make it up to her but I was eager to find out more. Harrison was HOT as hell and extremely smart in all aspects of life. Sam was a likable character and I am glad she got her own book.

There were only a few issues that I had. One was that Sam and Lexie were not speaking to one another because of what happened in the first book. The reunion with them was kind of anticlimactic, I thought they should have talked it out and been shown about how they reunited. Another issue I had was the ending. I thought it should have given me more but then again, it could have been because I didn't want them to leave, I liked being in their world.

Overall I give this book between a 3-4 so I'd say a 3.5/5 and I am excited to read more from Lisa Desrochers!!!

There's only one thing in life Lucien Knight really hates, and that's husbands who cheat on their wives.
There's only one problem in Sophie Black's life. Her cheating husband...
From the moment Lucien & Sophie meet, the seal is set.
Romantic, emotional & intensely erotic, Knight and Play is the perfect read for lovers of international bestsellers Fifty Shades & Bared To You. Let yourself be swept away by Part One of the Knight series from Kitty French, a romance so hot it'll burn your fingers...
CEO of Knight Inc. Lucien Knight is catch-your-breath gorgeous and damaged by his troubled past in Norway. All grown up and relocated to London, he's built his empire of adult clubs from the ground up to become the gorgeous patron saint of the sex industry. No one knows the dark childhood secrets that have given Lucien a backbone of steel and a heart encased in ice. No one until Sophie Black, that is...
From the moment girl-next-door Sophie accepts the job as Lucien Knight's PA, she understands how Alice must have felt when she tumbled down the rabbit hole. Lucien takes her safe, vanilla life away and plunges her head first into a huge dish of fantasy flavours. Rich, spicy chocolate covered with dark, oozingly lickable sauce? Check. Tutti-frutti with indecently red, glistening cherries on the top? Yes please.
Lucien strips away all of Sophie's inhibitions, and when he instructs her to select three new toys, she soon realises he has more than a game of Monopoly on his mind...
He's opened the door to a whole new pleasure packed world without limits, and Sophie is utterly intoxicated. But how far is she willing to go? And what happens when she has to step back into reality again?
Lucien & Sophie's is a story of star crossed love and forbidden passion, a sexual odyssey that spans the globe and changes both of their lives forever. Let it change yours, too.

Sophie black has turned her back on both her cheating husband and her sexy, enigmatic boss Lucien Knight. When she hits rock bottom, she finds herself drawn back into Lucien's glamorous no strings, high stakes world of intensely erotic encounters.

Knight & Stay is a star-crossed romantic adventure that spans the globe from Paris to the glittering artic northern lights, a sexual odyssey of love and lust that changes the lives of everyone involved forever.

Kara Brookes hates liars.
Dylan Day hasn’t told the truth from the moment his plane touched down in Ibiza.
It’s a recipe for disaster.
Lucien and Sophie are back, and have set up camp on the sun-drenched isle of Ibiza for the opening of the latest of Lucien’s strictly adult clubs.
They’re joined for the summer by Sophie’s best friend Kara, and Dylan Day, Lucien’s newly appointed club manager. The laid back, smokin’ hot surf guy from California seems almost too good to be true… but there’s no smoke without fire. It’s going to be a long hot summer of love, lust, lies and wedding bells. But who will get their happy ever after?
Romantic, emotional and intensely erotic, Knight & Day is the thrilling final installment of the USA Today bestselling Knight Series from Kitty French.
My Thoughts

I got the honor, privilege, distinction, to read this series for the blog tour and I am so happy I was able to because I seriously want to start an I EFFING LOVE LUCIEN KNIGHT fan club...
Oh, that man just did incredible things to my heart, mind, body...vagina

I am not going to go into too much detail about this series because I do not want to spoil anything for anyone who has not read the series yet. But I will say the first two books are about Lucien and Sophie, their dynamic, how they meet and the oh so delicious things they do to one another. Now I will have to warn anyone who does not like the subject of cheating, there is cheating in here BUT and this is a big BUT it is "understandable". What I mean by this, is you get why everything is happening the way it is and why the two MC are acting like they are. The cheating is only in the first installment and once you get to the second, you will not even care.

I am not kidding... Kitty French makes you forget that you have a conscience and makes it so damn hot that you are just sitting back and enjoying the whole ride and not giving two fucks if its "taboo" or not "right"...

I loved this whole series.
Even the third book, with four different main characters, that was probably my favorite of the entire series. I loved the first two but the third book just had a little something extra, by the name of Dylan Day! I still love Lucien but Dylan....Dylan gets a very close second in my spank bank... He was one hot mofo ;)...

Usually, when I get to the third book in a series, I am over the whole thing. I saw the characters fall in love, saw them beat the obstacles so what could the third book possibly give me that I have not already experienced? Well, this series throws in another relationship all while giving us more of the first two characters!! She doesn't make the third book completely about Lucien and Sophie but still has them there in the background so we don't miss them too much,  all while completing everyone's stories.  I thought that was genius!!

The writing and story telling was incredible... I felt like I was getting lost in their worlds and of course the hubs got more action because the book made extremely horny... Like WHOA... Im surprised I am not knocked up with Lucien's book baby!! And it doesn't hurt that he had an empire of SEX TOYS.. I mean could he be any more perfect???

The relationships are not rushed they are slow, sensual, and Kitty makes you fall in love with them before the characters fall in love with each other. The Smut is HOT (if you haven't figured that out by now). And the author doesn't leave anything open, all of their stories are complete.

Overall I give this series a "4.5/5 LUCIEN KNIGHT IS ONE HOT PIECE OF ASS Stars" and I can't wait to read more from Kitty French!!

EXCERPT from Knight & Play:

“My husband is having an affair, Lucien.”
He had the grace to look genuinely shocked, then waited and watched for her to
continue.
“And here’s the thing. Right at this moment, he’s God knows where with God
knows who until next weekend, and I don’t think I even care.”
How good did it feel to say that? Sophie was momentarily taken aback by the
strength of her relief at hearing her own words out loud. Dan had held her down with
his casual disinterest for long enough. Acknowledging it was a release. Lucien
crossed the room slowly, never taking his eyes off her, and sat in the chair opposite.
“He’s a fucking fool.”
Sophie shrugged and looked out of the window. “Maybe. He’s avoided having sex
with me for more than six months now.”
“I’ll say it again. He’s a fucking fool.”
“Yes.”
Sophie gazed at Lucien opposite. Jesus, he was beautiful. If she was going to be
unfaithful with anyone, this sinful, sexy man was it.
“Would it help if we fucked?”
Sophie laughed and put her hands to her cheeks in shock.
“Could we at least have a drink first?”

EXCERPT from Knight & Stay

"I think I love this place," she whispered dreamily.
"And I love what this place does to you," he countered against her lips.
"You used the L word again."
"I did. I also love that you're naked underneath this dress." He rocked his hips into her, his erection hard against her abdomen.
The tip of Sophie's tongue snaked over his lips, and he accepted her invitation willingly. The slow, late night music washed around them, a steady beat to move to, to kiss to. Her mouth was warm and open for him, and her arms tightened around him as he massaged her bottom. Christ, she felt amazing. He wanted to ruck her skirt up and fill his hands with her bare skin.
She breathed his name when he squeezed her nipple and didn't stop him when he eased the cup of her dress down just enough to give him access to stroke it without exposing her to the other dancers. She bit down on his lip and groaned.
"Oh god, Lucien."
"Shh." He held her close and kissed her ear. "I still love your tits."
"That's two days on the run," Sophie said, a little unevenly. She was finding it hard to concentrate on speech. "You're in danger of creating a habit."
"And you're in danger of being screwed right here on this dance floor."
He felt her lips form a smile against his mouth.

"Then I guess we’d better sit down."

EXCERPT from Knight & Day

“Go home Kara. Go home and be happy, because you deserve to be more than anyone else I know. Go
home knowing that I truly fucking loved you. You didn’t get it wrong. I didn’t fool you, and the next man who loves you won’t automatically be lying to you. He’ll be the luckiest guy in the world. Don’t run away from love because of what I did. I lied about many things, but never once about how I felt about you.”
Kara stopped trying to hold her tears in. It was a battle she’d never win, and Dylan was barely hanging on himself. He reached out and brushed the back of his fingers over her damp cheek.
“Go home knowing I love your huge fucking heart, and your laugh, and the way you do everything full
throttle even though there’s every chance you’ll break your neck. I’m not going to ask you to stay. Not
because I don’t want you, or because I don’t love you, or because I don’t need you. I do. I love you, and I want you, and I need you so much it hurts to wake up in the morning without you.” His voice cracked. “Let that be my liar’s penance.”
