Aleena Moore is content with her life. She has goals and dreams and an easy smile. She also has a secret she holds locked inside.
Jared Holt believes he doesn’t deserve to love or be loved. He destroys everything he touches. Haunted by the mistake that shattered his life, he’s fled from the memory of that pain.
Jared doesn’t know why he’s compelled to return, but finds himself drawn back to the place where it all began. The exact place where it ended. When he runs into his childhood best friend, Aleena’s older brother Christopher, he agrees to share Christopher and Aleena’s apartment while he looks for a place of his own.
Aleena is no longer the little girl Jared remembers from his past and evokes feelings in him he never wanted to feel again. Terrified of destroying her, he fights to keep her away. But her touch is something he can’t resist—the touch that sealed his fate.
Their pasts are intertwined and their futures uncertain. The only truths they know are the secrets they whisper in the night.

My Thoughts
Ok, so, this is my first REVIEW for one of A.L. Jackson's books but I have actually read quite a few books written by her. I've read When We Collide, Take This Regret, and Pulled. After reading Take This Regret, I was so mad at A.L, that I swore I was NEVER going to read another book by her. The funny part is, I can't for the life of me remember why I was mad at her...
I think it had something to do with the ending and how the whole book was so intense and then the ending just left me a little bereft. Of course, that was before I knew there was going to be a sequel. This was back before I started being an obsessive author stalker and if I knew then, what I know now, I would have been nicer to poor A.L Jackson...
So, what made me read Come To Me Quietly after swearing off her books???
Well, this sweet, amazing author e-mailed me and asked me to be apart of the tour....
*Lets take a moment of silence to digest this because I definitely needed a LOT of moments after reading the email*
I was FLOORED... I was like WHAT... You want ME to be apart of YOUR blog tour?? Are you shitting me? NO WAY!!!
That of course, was all going through my mind and I can't say NO to A.L. Jackson, no one says no to A.L Jackson...
SO, I tell her of course and here I am giving you a review for Come To Me Quietly....
Now, I avoided this book because I needed to be in a right state of mind before reading one of her books. I knew it was going to be intense, rip your heart out angsty... and I wasn't wrong.
I was on the edge of my seat the entire time.
I was so tense, wondering what was happening and what exactly happened to Jared and all these other question floating through my mind.
But I loved every stinking, gut wrenching, moment of it.
Jackson likes to rip your guts out and then patch them back together all while she plots out how to do it again. She is amazing at her craft and I bow down to her angsty heart.
Jared and Aleena are two very cracked people. Jared more so than her. Some stuff happens when they are teenagers and Jared can never get over it. Aleena and Jared grew up together, along with Christopher, Aleena's brother. When Jared is sent away after the issues happen, both Aleena and Christopher are devastated.
Then one night Chris sees Jared in a bar and it nearly brings Aleena to her knees when she finds out he is back in town.
Aleena has always loved Jared. He was her protector and when Chris wanted to leave her behind, Jared would always be there to swoop in and let her tag along, all while making sure she was ok the entire time.
I LOVED the whole dynamic of Aleena and Jared growing up together and being there for one another. It made my heart swoon when I read the flashbacks to childhood and saw the fierce protectiveness Jared had over her.
Then as adults, watching them together just made me feel butterflies all over and I couldn't get enough. I literally stayed up until 4am reading this book and was a complete zombie the next morning, but it was worth every. single. second of sleep I lost.
Jared being so damaged and lost, it tore at my heart strings. I love me some damaged, fucked up, characters and A.L definitely delivered that in Jared's character. But I also loved how sweet, kind, and patient Aleena was when she was around Jared. She was healing his damaged soul without him even being aware that she was doing it, until it was too late, and he was head over heels.
It was just as intense as all of A.L's books are but I remembered why so long ago I couldn't stop reading her stories. She just loves to squeeze my heart and drive me near insanity with the intense moments, but it is just so good. I need to just kick myself in the ass for ever even stopping and being mad at her because I could have been experiencing so many other great books by her.
So, to sum up this book in a few words, I would have to say it's raw, passionate, swoon-worthy, intense, gut wrenching, heartbreaking!! I cried so hard and yet was so moved by these characters that I was sick with dread and praying for hope and I just couldn't put it down.
Then she leaves it on a semi-high note but I was left wanting so much MORE...
I give this book 5/5 heartbreaking,
soul-crushing,
hopeful,
stars.
*About the Author*
A.L.
Jackson is the New York Times bestselling author of Take This Regret and Lost
to You, as well as other contemporary romance titles, including Pulled and When
We Collide.
She
first found a love for writing during her days as a young mother and college
student. She filled the journals she carried with short stories and poems used
as an emotional outlet for the difficulties and joys she found in day-to-day
life.
Years
later, she shared a short story she’d been working on with her two closest
friends and, with their encouragement, this story became her first full length
novel. A.L. now spends her days writing in Southern Arizona where she lives
with her husband and three children. Her favorite pastime is spending time with
the ones she loves.
