Left Drowning by Jessica Park

"He did give me something. Someone. You. He gave me you."

I was able to snag this ARC from Netgalley and Amazon Publishing (I <3 Amazon). So glad I got approved for this little gem, I seriously LOVED this book..

Description:
What does it take to rise from life’s depths, swim against the current, and breathe?
Weighted down by the loss of her parents, Blythe McGuire struggles to keep her head above water as she trudges through her last year at Matthews College. Then a chance meeting sends Blythe crashing into something she doesn’t expect—an undeniable attraction to a dark-haired senior named Chris Shepherd, whose past may be even more complicated than her own. As their relationship deepens, Chris pulls Blythe out of the stupor she’s been in since the night a fire took half her family. She begins to heal, and even, haltingly, to love this guy who helps her find new paths to pleasure and self-discovery. But as Blythe moves into calmer waters, she realizes Chris is the one still strangled by his family’s traumatic history. As dark currents threaten to pull him under, Blythe may be the only person who can keep him from drowning.

My Thoughts

Jessica Park did it again, she stole my heart, mind, and my tears.

I gotta admit that this book started off really weird, I wasn't sure where it was going. I thought it was going to be one of those insta-love type books where I want to scream with how fast the "I love yous" get thrown around but I was pleasantly surprised as I kept reading and LOVED

EVERY. SINGLE. MINUTE.

I loved it so much that I had a hard time deciding what exactly I wanted to say about it. There is only so many times you can say"YOU BETTER PRE-ORDER THIS BOOK...OR ELSE!!!"  but how can I possibly tell you guys how amazing and fan-fucking-tasic this book is without giving away the magic??.. Well here is my attempt and I REALLY hope I do this book justice because MY GOD does it deserve amazing things!!

If you are looking for a nice beach read with fluffy characters and magic and little cuddly bunnies of adorableness...then this is NOT the book for you.

If you want REAL characters with REAL trauma, drama, love, friendship, pain, heartbreak, healing, hot sex and all the other emotions you can possibly imagine then READ THIS BOOK, it has all of that and MORE!

It's just simply amazing..

I was looking for something different and unexpected and I got just that. Hell, I should have known by the dedication that it was going to be a different kind of book

"This book is for everyone who has SURVIVED. You are not broken. You can love and be loved, despite what may feel like the eternally brutal nature of the world. Even when you're drowning and so far under, there is always time to reach for someone who will teach you how to breathe again"

Holy goosebumps batman!!!!

It starts off with Blythe being drunk stumbling into her dorm room after a night of partying. You realize in the first couple of pages that Blythe has had a hard life and something has happened to her in the past that has left some deep scars that she carries around on the inside and outside. She is a hermit that keeps to herself at school and the only time she wants to go out is if she's in need of some partying.
Then along comes Sabin who comes into her life like a tornado of flair and drama who upon meeting her for the very first time steals her coffee and makes her come to his play that he is apart of at school.
He leaves Blythe in a mix bag of emotions not knowing how to proceed with the unique character that is Sabin.
She makes her way around campus and then meets Chris, all tall, dark hair, masculine Chris that also sweeps her into a whirlwind of emotions that she has never experienced before.
They find comfort with each other and they can't explain the attractiveness and magnetic pull that they feel towards one another, it scares the shit out of both of them but they can't stay away from one another!!
It's like meeting the other half of your soul and being too scared to explore the possibilities!!!

Blythe finds out that Chris and Sabin are brothers and she is then introduced to the whole Shepherd family.

The Shepherd's are a beautifully broken family full of unique characters and love. There is no denying the amount of love the siblings have for one another and you are left in awe with the amount of perserverance this family has.
You don't know a lot of background on them until towards the end but you can tell from the very beginning that they are just as broken as Blythe.
She fits into their clan perfectly and its like broken pieces of a fucked up puzzle..but it works, it still makes a beautiful picture even with all the jagged pieces.

Blythe starts healing from her wounds of the past through the help of this dysfunctionally-functional family. Their banter with one another is funny, endearing, and just plain entertaining. They embrace, heal, and love her through all her pain and Chris is the one person that makes her feel whole but he also breaks her in another way that leaves you in a puddle of pure anxiety and sadness. I wanted to scream and throw babies because it was just awful.

"Take it from someone who is also in love with a Shepherd brother. They are easy boys to fall in love with, but hard to really, really hold on to"
(remember this is an ARC so this might be edited or changed in the final copy)

I can't say enough how much I LOVED this book!
It was different and full of unique characters that leave an imprint on your heart and mind.
I was a blubbering mess in certain parts and so glad I was reading in my dark, quiet room because my dignity would have flown right out the window when people saw how much this book affected my emotions.

Jessica Park leaves me needing therapy after her books, I swear I am never going to be the same and need an intervention by the end of them!
(And by intervention I mean chocolate and wine)
She made me believe in fate and destiny where before I was always a cynic. How can an author even do that?? How does she elicit the feelings and emotions so strong in me that I feel like I have been through the ringer by the end of it? I'm wrung out and exposed of all my emotions but at the same time I feel like she pieced me back but I'm not the same because I have accepted things that before I was so cynical about.

Seriously..
MIND=BLOWN

This story is fucking amazing and while reading you see that with the strength of love, patience, understanding, and forgiveness people can HEAL, become whole, and endure life's tragedies, while coming out the other side stronger and more resilient than before.

I give this book 5/5***** and all I have to say is Jessica Park BETTER have more in store with this family.. I NEED MORE they are my drug of choice and I need my fix!!!

This book is set to release July 16th, 2013
and you WILL buy this book and LOVE it as much as I did

You are doing your mind an injustice if you do not pre-order or BUY this book the day that it is released!!!

The Secret of Ella and Micha by Jessica Sorenson

“you can't just change who you are on the outside and expect it to change who you are on the inside.”

I received a copy of this book for an honest review and here is my opinion on The Secret of Ella and Micha..

Description:

Ella and Micha have been best friends since they were kids. But one tragic night shatters their friendship and their lives forever.

Ella used to be a rule-breaker with fiery attitude who wore her heart on her sleeve. But she left everything behind when she went to college and transformed into someone that follows the rules, keeps everything together, and hides all her problems. But now it's summer break and she has nowhere else to go but home.
Ella fears everything she worked so hard to bury might resurface, especially with Micha living right next door. If Micha tries to tempt the old her back, she knows that it will be hard to resist.
Micha is sexy, smart, confident, and can get under Ella’s skin like no one else can. He knows everything about her, including her darkest secrets. And he’s determined to bring his best friend, and the girl he loves back, no matter what it takes.

My Thoughts
I have loved every single Jessica Sorenson book I have EVER read. The Falling Stars series was brilliant and so different from everything else I have ever read, it was pure magic. The Coincidence of Callie and Kayden was so heartbreakingly good that I cried buckets after finishing it but The Secret of Ella and Micha kind of fell flat after reading all of those books. I was IN LOVE with the other ones and this one I'm in LIKE with it..

This story starts off with Ella in college and about to head home for the summer since she can not stay in the dorm rooms during summer vacation. She is nervous about going home because she has changed completely since moving away and she doesn't want to go back to the way she was. She has  not spoken to a single person since leaving for college 8 months before and if she had it her way, she never would again. She gets home and of course everything is the exact same as it was when she left and of course her neighbor and ex best friend Micha is still doing the same things he was doing before she left. Micha is sexy, confident, and was one of Ella's best friends until she left and practically left him with no idea as to where she went or how to get in touch with her. Micha has been in love with Ella for so long that he doesn't even remember not being in love with her. But Ella puts up a wall and does not want to feel the feelings that Micha produces from her. She pushes him away and Micha just pushes right back.

Their love is unique, sexy, hot, lustful, and just plain adorable. I loved them and I rooted for them and their relationship from the very beginning. I wanted Ella to stop running away and start running towards Micha.
This is the kind of love that not many people experience and you can swoon all over it on every page!!

This book was good and I can't wait to sink my teeth into the next book!

I give this book a 4/5 and you should buy it too and the next one as well!!!

Buy it here on Amazon for your Kindle and for super cheap as well!!:

White Trash Beautiful by Teresa Mummert

"Sometimes you have to fall before you can fly...and sometimes you need someone to catch you"

This ARC was given to be for a honest review by Netgalley and Gallery Books..

Description:

A word-of-mouth bestseller that’s captivating readers with its honesty, grit, and headstrong heroine, White Trash Beautiful is a story for anyone who has ever felt trapped in life, cheated by love—and longed for something more . . .
Cass Daniels isn’t waiting for her knight in shining armor. She knows that girls like her don’t get a happily ever after. Not if you live in a trailer with your mom, work at a greasy spoon diner, and get leered at by old men. Maybe that’s why she puts up with Jackson—her poor excuse for a boyfriend, who treats her like dirt. Cass has learned to accept her lot in life. That is, until he walks into her diner. . . .
His name is Tucker White, and he’s different from any man Cass has ever known. Tall, tattooed, and bad-ass gorgeous, he’s the lead singer of the rock band Damaged. From the moment they meet, Tucker sees something in Cass he just can’t shake. Something beautiful. Something haunted. Something special. And he’s determined to find out what it is—if only he can get her to open up and let him in. . . .

My Thoughts:

This book was a little rough for me. I liked it but I didn't LOVE it.

It starts off with a funny excerpt about Cass' life in general

"I'm not naive. I know I don't get the happily ever after. My knight in shining armor took the highway detour around this godforsaken shit hole..."

Cass is a girl stuck in a hard life, working while supporting her boyfriend and mother who both have a drug problem. She has been saving all the money she can so she can one day get out of the destruction that is her life.
While working at a diner, Tucker White enters and sits down in her section, from that moment on her life is never the same.
She thinks he's gorgeous and way too good for her. She thinks he would never be interested in someone like her and if he is then that means he wants something from her, just like all the other guys in her life.

As the story progresses you start to see the friendship forming between Tucker and Cass, you are yelling at Cass for being so cautious and stubborn but have compassion towards her situation. Cass wants to be there for her mother but living in that trailer with her abusive boyfriend is toxic.

When she decides to leave and live a better life something happens that changes her whole life and you are left feeling so sorry for her.

I liked this story, I still want to read the next book because I am not done with Cass and Tucker's story. I felt like the book JUST started getting good and then it ended and I am left bereft. This is why I do not like reviewing series until I read all of them but since I have to write about this one for a review I needed to write what I thought so far.

I did love how Cass picked her life back up and started standing on her own two feet. She formed lasting friendships with people that were healthy for her and she was only missing one thing...Tucker. But my GOD she was so wishy-washy that I wanted to strangle her!!

I loved Tucker's character and I hope to learn more about him in the other stories because I feel like he has more to say about himself than what was said already. He was the typical hot, sweet, kind, character that you'd expect but he also had similarities with Cass that made them a good match with one another.
I just wish there was more passion between them, I couldn't quite connect with Cass or Tucker and I felt the story was missing something, like we only got part of the story and not all of it. I think Cass spent too much time pushing Tucker away and being back and forth that it drove me a little crazy. It was like she was being a brat one second and throwing fits and then the next declaring that she deserved to live her life, then back to feeling sorry for herself..
It was just a merry-go-round of emotions.

I give this book a 3/5 *** and I do look forward to reading more in the future about Cass and Tucker..

This book is set to release on July 9th, 2013

A Different Blue by Amy Harmon

“Someone told me once that to create true art you must be willing to bleed and let others watch.”

This book is simply a work of art...

This review is hard for me. This book was so freaking AMAZEBALLS that I am having a hard time to really put into words just how incredible this book really was. I am going to try and do this book justice without giving anything away because I wouldn't want to ruin it for anyone.

Description:
Blue Echohawk doesn't know who she is. She doesn't know her real name or when she was born. Abandoned at two and raised by a drifter, she didn't attend school until she was ten years old. At nineteen, when most kids her age are attending college or moving on with life, she is just a senior in high school. With no mother, no father, no faith, and no future, Blue Echohawk is a difficult student, to say the least. Tough, hard and overtly sexy, she is the complete opposite of the young British teacher who decides he is up for the challenge, and takes the troublemaker under his wing.

This is the story of a nobody who becomes somebody. It is the story of an unlikely friendship, where hope fosters healing and redemption becomes love. But falling in love can be hard when you don't know who you are. Falling in love with someone who knows exactly who they are and exactly why they can't love you back might be impossible.

My Thoughts:
Have you ever had a book that completely left you raw with emotions and you came out on the other side of the book exposed and bleeding??
This book did that to me.
It left me raw and bleeding (in a good way).

In the beginning I was completely thrown off because I had no idea where this book was headed. It was like a big history lesson but it was taught in a way that added character to the book and eventually everything fit together and by the end you were sitting there saying
"Ahh Amy Harmon, I see what you did there".
I can't say more than that because it will give away the magic of the book.

Blue Echohawk had no past, she was living in the present with only distant memories of what happened to her when she was younger. She was placed with her "aunt" and all she knew of her mother was that she abandoned her when she was two and the only father figure that she knew was a drifter who raised her to the best of his ability. When her father was found dead she was sent to live with her aunt who let it slip that the drifter was not her real father and her "aunt" had no idea who her real family was.

Blue Echohawk was alone with no idea who she was.

SO when her entirely hot British teacher, Mr. Darcy Wilson (OH pride & Prejudice reference swwooonn), asks the class to write about their past for a year-long assignment she had no idea what to write because she didn't KNOW who she was, she didn't know her REAL name, she didn't even know her real birthdate. All she knew was what she had been told, so how could she write about a past that she has no clue about??

“Once upon a time . . . there was a little blackbird,” I wrote. I stared at the page. “. . . pushed out of the nest, unwanted.”

I could relate to Blue, I never knew my mother so there are things about my own past I am a little sketchy about but at least I knew my real name, birthday, and the name of both of my parents. But regardless of the knowledge that I know, there are questions that only a mother can answer and it sucks to not know who you are completely.
Probably why this book tore into my soul and exposed feelings that I long left buried inside..

Again.. I was bleeding and raw

As the book continues you see Blue open up a little bit, you see the real Blue inside the girl who puts on a mask around other people. She isn't this big slut that other people think she is. She is smart, sweet, caring, resilient and very artistic, especially when it comes to wood-carving. Her father taught her all about carving wood since she was able to hold the tools herself and she has been doing it ever since.

It's her escape and her therapy.

As the school year progresses Mr. Wilson and Blue form a friendship that develops throughout the year. He pushes Blue just enough to get her to respond and then leaves it up to Blue to figure it out on her own. You see her change, you see her WANT to change herself and her ways. By the end of the year Blue is a different person than she was in the beginning and Mr. Wilson is to thank for that, but she still had room to grow.

"But as the waves crashed over me, I was not consumed, I was swept up, washed, my soul blanketed with blessed relief. Hope rose within me like a buoy. And with the hope, came peace. And the peace calmed the waters and quieted the storm, until I sat, spent, bled out, done."

You think their friendship would end there but after Blue leaves school she is met with life obstacles that she has no idea what to do about them. From there you see Mr. Wilson become just Wilson, Blue's once teacher but now friend and companion. He offers her part of his home that she can live in for cheap and a place where she can do her wood carvings in solitude. Wilson becomes Blue's one friend that she never knew she needed. He continues to push her to find out who she is, where she came from, and to put the pieces of her life back together so she can be whole and know her whole story.

She goes on a journey figuring out who she is and what happened to her and her parents. This journey comes complete by the end of the story and you get a full-circle affect that you don't (or maybe you do) expect.

"Beneath my wounds I was still whole. Beneath my insecurities, beneath my pain, beneath my struggle, beneath it all, I was still whole".

While on this journey, you see the romance build with Wilson and Blue. I thought it was going to creep me out when Blue started to see Wilson as a romantic interest because he was her teacher to begin with but it was anything but creepy!! Their love is endearing, frustrating, hopeful, lustful, and enchanting. Their love is what true romance novels are all about. It wasn't rushed (it was almost painfully slow), it was heart breaking but oh so swoon-worthy. You are left in a puddle of pure DELIGHT just reading it.

"I was spent without compromise, sated without sacrifice, completely and totally head-over-heels in love. And it was delicious."

"He tasted like black licorice and snowflakes. Simultaneously forbidden and familiar. Hot and cold. Sinful and safe."

The other supporting characters were just as amazing as the main ones and they gave the book so much more depth. They were incredible.

There was one part of the book, in particular that left me a blubbering mess and that was when Blue was in the hospital after the hurricane and Wilson's sister and husband came to see her. By the end of that whole chapter I had to put the book away and get myself together because it was so beautifully raw, painful, heart-wrentching that I felt like I was there in that room. I felt Blue's emotions and I could only picture what that wood-carving she made afterwards looked like when she was done. Of course people who have read this book know what I am talking about and if you have not then when you do, you will understand.

There are books out there that rarely speak to my soul and this book did just that. It was amazing, brilliant, incredible. It pulled me in, told me stories like I was around a warm camp fire listening to nature and then gave me history lessons that left me thinking long after I finished the last page of the story. It made me FEEL and it made me want to become an even better person by the end.

I swear people search forever for a book that can make you feel the way this one made me feel, I don't think I will ever be the same.

I would also like to point out the phenomenal details that were added to this book. The Native American tales, the references to the Greeks, the poems, the history within the book added so much richness that it made the book so smooth to take in and adore. Amy Harmon did her research and you could tell that she put her whole heart and mind into this story.

I give this amazing book 5 fantastic/amazing STARS and if you have not read it by now, I suggest you do that RIGHT NOW!!!

Here is the link to it for Amazon and its on sale right now for 99PENNIES!! How freaking fantastic is that?? I would pay more so even if it raises in price, BUY IT ANYWAYS, it's totally worth it and YES this book is THAT GOOD!!..

Flat-Out Love by Jessica Park

I should say this book should have been named FLAT OUT CRAZY But AMAZING!!

“Normal people can become very annoying if put in annoying situations.”

Description:
He was tall, at least six feet, with dirty blond hair that hung over his eyes. His T-shirt read Nietzsche Is My Homeboy.

So, that was Matt. Who Julie Seagle likes. A lot. But there is also Finn. Who she flat out loves.

Complicated? Awkward? Completely.

But really, how was this freshly-minted Boston transplant and newbie college freshman supposed to know that she would end up living with the family of an old friend of her mother's? This was all supposed to be temporary. Julie wasn't supposed to be important to the Watkins family, or to fall in love with one of the brothers. Especially the one she's never quite met. But what does that really matter? Finn gets her, like no one ever has before. They have connection.

But here's the thing about love, in all its twisty, bumpy permutations—it always throws you a few curves. And no one ever escapes unscathed.

My Thoughts:

This book gave me the ultimate book boner with all the psychological aspects that were present.
As a future counselor I sorta guessed from the very beginning what happened BUT the ultimate test with any author is even if you SUSPECT/GUESS/KNOW what is going to happen and they are still able to make you portray the emotions they wanted you to experience, then they are an A+ author. And Jessica Park did that and more.
I seriously had to put the book down and cry in a corner for a minute to get over all the heartbreak and emotions that I was feeling. Ok maybe it was my bed and not a corner but you get the point.
This book made me FEEL and I came out on the other side in a mixed bag of emotions.

Just call me emotionally unstable!!

This book starts off with Julie, who is just starting college and she gets ripped off by an online ad for a room for rent. Not only is there not a room for rent but she also lost a lot of money in the process. Julie calls her mother and her mother contacts an old college roommate that offers Julie a room to stay in while she is at school.
This is where she meets the ever-quirky Watkins family.
I loved each member of the family because of their uniqueness, especially the old Celeste and the new one that was present by the end of the book.
Celeste was carrying around a cardboard cutout of her older brother Finn because he was away from home and the whole family missed him terribly. Flat Finn, which he was appropriately named, went everywhere Celeste went in the home. She was a hermit, only staying confined in the walls of her home while being socially awkward at school. The psychology student in me was naming all kinds of scenarios that happened with Celeste to make her that attached to her FF because it wasn’t normal and it drove me crazy that the Watkins family refused to not only talk about the huge elephant in the room but to also ignore how awkward Celeste was. It wasn’t until Julie started to work with Celeste that you started to see a change in Celeste. She started acting like a quirky-“normal” teenager like the other girls in her school. It both terrified and thrilled the Watkins family.

Julie also spent a lot of time with Matt and online Finn. Since Finn traveled all over the world the only communication he had was through the internet. You begin to see a little love triangle type thing form between them and you are not only falling in love with the nerdy Matt but also the adventurous Finn.

Matt was fun, creative, smart, driven, determined, but also had a humorous and sweet side. The banter between Julie and Matt was funny, flirty and borderline explosive. When they argued it was still funny and even if Julie was aiming more towards Finn, I felt that she belonged to Matt!

“I’m guessing by the suitcases that you must be Julie? Or else I’m about to kidnap the wrong girl.”

Finn was adventurous, sweet, kind, and was there to give Julie advice when she needed it the most. But he couldn't physically be there for her since he traveled all over the world and never came home, the only communication was through FB and emails so while Julie felt emotionally attached to Finn, she couldn't be physically attached.

The ending is what I figured out from the very beginning but I didn't know all the details to what happened and the who, what, where, how, when etc so when it finally came time for the big plot twist I was OH MY GOSHING and crying buckets. The reveal wasn't what made it emotional it was the pain and sorrow that was depicted that made me weep.
I was a goner!

But I was also disappointed in the very end as well. Of course I have not read Flat-Out-Matt yet so I might get more information in that book and will have to change this review. But I wanted to find out more about Julie and her father's relationship and her mom kind of dropped off after being a big part of it in the beginning of the book. Also we never figured out what her major was going to be. Lastly, the ending with Matt and Julie was kind of anticlimactic, I thought it needed to be more exciting because of everything that happened but thats just me and it didn't deter from the story in anyway and I still loved it!  It was just little things but it left me wanting more!!
Then again I LOVED the characters so much that I probably would have wanted more no matter what!

I give this book a 4.5/5 and I hope every ONE of you LOVE this book as much as I did

Snippets from the book:

“I see a maniacal-looking guy with brightly colored candy in one hand, and he’s waving a bloody sickle with the other. Oh! He’s beckoning me to the car. This must be my ride.”

"But that’s what love does to you. Gut-wrenching, overpowering, crushing, fulfilling, complex, bring-you-to-your-knees love."

"The cockroaches are a nice bonus. I’ve always wanted to live with animals. And I can make extra money working as a hooker. Those girls outside looked really friendly, and I’m sure they’d take me under their wing and teach me the tricks of the trade. Pardon the pun.”
