The USA TODAY bestselling author of the Ten Tiny Breaths and Burying Water series makes her romantic thriller debut with this heartpounding story of a young woman determined to find justice after her best friend’s death, a story pulsing with the “intense, hot, emotional” (Colleen Hoover) writing that exhilarates her legions of fans.
Twenty-eight-year-old Maggie Sparkes arrives in New York City to pack up what’s left of her best friend’s belongings after a suicide that has left everyone stunned. The police have deemed the evidence conclusive: Celine got into bed, downed a bottle of Xanax and a handle of Maker’s Mark, and never woke up. But when Maggie discovers secrets in the childhood lock box hidden in Celine’s apartment, she begins asking questions. Questions about the man Celine fell in love with. The man she never told anyone about, not even Maggie. The man who Celine herself claimed would be her ruin.
On the hunt for answers that will force the police to reopen the case, Maggie uncovers more than she bargained for about Celine’s private life—and inadvertently puts herself on the radar of a killer who will stop at nothing to keep his crimes undiscovered.

I have been a fan of K.A for a long time. Her stories captivate every crevice of my imagination and I am always left in a big pile of goo by the end of her books.
When she said she was working on a suspense novel, I thought, "that's different", but I am excited to read it.
Suspense novels are out of my comfort zone for the most part because I like pretty, fluffy, love stories with characters and plot that makes me mushy and coming back for more; over and over again. But I took the plunge for KA because she is KA and I knew she could deliver. I am happy to report I wasn't wrong because she did deliver, she delivered hard, all over my brain...
(that sounded dirty)
When I picked up He Will Be My Ruin I was sucked into the plot almost immediately. I didn't know WTF was going on and I had to keep reading to figure it out. I don't think I looked up from this novel once. It was too good to put down and even when I was screaming, "HE IS THE KILLER".... I would later find out that I was so very wrong.
I suspected everyone and just when the ending was getting within my sight, I was determined a certain character was it, he was the killer, HE DID IT.
But did he?
Was it just a suicide like initially thought?
Or was it somebody completely different?
Maggie didn't really know her friend as well as she once thought, could she be wrong about everything?
You won't know your answers until the end and even if you are great at guessing, I can guarantee your theory will be off and you will be completely surprised on the journey KA takes you on.
I LOVED how I kept second-guessing my answers. She encompassed everything I love in her stories and brought it out in this suspense novel, added the elements of surprise, and BAM, He Will Be My Ruin was born.
K.A. is easily one of my top favorite authors and this book just proved she could write a biography on Ants and I would probably love it all over.
I give this a 4.5 "OMG, WTF, HOW, WHAAAAT" Stars
You need to check it out for yourself!! You will not be disappointed.
